Badlands Red Angus, Fehrman Family Red Angus & Severance Red Angus Joint Production Sale

Scott Dirk
Sale host Seth Cargo visits with Jesse Weber of Weber Farms Red Angus, Lake Benton, MN.

Once again Badlands Red Angus, Fehrman Family Red Angus and Severance Red Angus teamed up for their annual production sale. The sale was held at Kist Livestock Auction in Mandan, ND on Feb. 26, 2010. These operations strive to produce cattle that will excel in performance, fleshing ability, fertility and soundness, without forgetting about disposition.

This was a very stout set of thick made bulls – bulls that should add extra pounds at weaning and excellent replacement females. The bulls showed great fleshing ability, uniformity and eye appeal.

Topping the yearling bulls was Lot 1, Badlands PFFR Locked & Loaded 918, a 3/3/09 son of RD Ter-Ron Fully Loaded 540R and out of the Badlands Cedar 624 cow family. This high performing herd sire prospect had a 205 wt. of 849 pounds and 365 wt. of 1,504 pounds with EPDs of BW 2.7, WW 44, YW 75 and Milk 16. He sold to the Locked & Loaded Syndicate for $9,500 (half interest & full possession).

The next top yearling bull was lot 2, Badlands Capacity 14W, a 2/8/09 son of UBAR High Capacity 224 and out of the Badlands Medora cow family. This bull posted a 205 wt. of 777 pounds with 365 wt. of 1,593 pounds and EPDs of BW 0.7, WW 46, YW 93 and Milk 21. Jack Pennington of New Town, ND was the buyer at $6,500 (2/3 interest & full possession).

Weber Farms Red Angus of Lake Benton, MN purchased the next high seller at $5,000 (2/3 interest & full possession). Lot 4, Badlands Capacity 9W, is a 2/5/09 UBAR High Capacity 224 son that also goes back to the Badlands Medora cow family. This bull has EPDs of BW 2.1, WW 46, YW 97 and Milk 21.

Lot 10, Badlands Loaded 78W, a 2/28/09 bull by Badlands Loaded 19T and out of Badlands Medora 440 cow, sold to Kurt Rich of Vinton, IA for $4,750 (2/3 interest & full possession). This bull has EPDs of BW 0.0, WW 43, YW 90 and Milk 21.

The two-year-old bulls from Severance Red Angus complimented the yearlings very well. They were developed to sell as two-year-olds and had not been pushed. This was probably the thickest, most uniform set of two-year-olds that Severance had ever offered.

The top selling two-year-old was Lot 40, SEVE Hill Top U113, a 5/2/08 bull by SEVE King of the Hill S034 and out of a Red Brylor New Trend bred cow. This bull had a 205 wt. of 790 pounds and EPDs of BW 3.4, WW 56, YW 99 and Milk 26. He sold to Lance and Teri Ostdahl of Palermo, ND for $4,000.

Lot 36, SEVE Grand Prix U036, was the next top selling two-year-old. This 4/10/08 bull was sired by UBAR Grand Prix and out of a Glacier Logan dam. He had a 205 wt. of 743 pounds and EPDs of BW 1.0, WW 32, YW 61 and Milk 20. Albert Noel of Linton, ND was the buyer at $3,300.
