Barclay Construction and Copper Spring Ranch presented the Montana Barrel Daze/ American Barrel Racing Qualifier, Oct 17-18. It was a smashing success with beautiful weather.

Paying out over $77,000 in cash, the event included over 830 runs by barrel racers from across the United States congregated at the beautiful Cottonwood Equestrian Center in Silesia, Montana. American Legion Prairie Post #32 Terry, Montana, decorated the arena with their amazing American Flags, Calgary Stampede’s beautiful bunting. Copper Spring Ranch added red, white and blue flowers to set the stage for the exciting event.

The Wrangler Divisional Circuit Finals started Saturday morning. Heather Knerr aboard Dashing French Charm won it with a 15.10 for $481.

Winning the Saturday Open 5D was the great jockey, Rachael Myllymaki, Wyoming, aboard Poppys Power Play with a 14.69 for $1,314.

Cassidy Kruse, Wyoming, rose to the top in the Saturday WPRA sidepot with a 14.70 riding Dash To Tim for $440.

The WPRA Permit race winner was Shea Flanigan, Wyoming, running a 14.90 riding Boston on Fire for $324.

Senior sidepot winner was Melanie Adams with a 15.066 riding RGR Loner Boy. Saturday futurity sidepot winner was Jessie Telford, Idaho, riding Playguns Fame to a 14.854.

Sunday morning brought a new day and a packed house for American Qualifier #7. 126 runners were vying for their chance at the $1,000,000 opportunity at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. It was an extremely tight race from 2-10 with several Canadians qualifying.

The Rookie 2015 Wrangler National Finals qualifier, Cassidy Kruse, Wyoming, riding Dash Ta Tim, set the pace with a new arena record 14.509 for $2,677 punching her ticket to the Semi-Finals in Fort Worth. Joining her will be second Tayla Moeykens, Montana, aboard Tell Dasher with a time of 14.734 for $2,283. Deb Guelly, Alberta aboard Royal Star Commander, 14.78 for $1,968 was third. Rachael Myllymaki, Wyoming, aboard Poppys Power Play, 14.785 for $1,732 was fourth. Taylor Shields, Alberta aboard Flyin High Gamble, 14.798 for $1,496 was fifth. Amber Moore, Oregon, aboard CP Dark Moon, 14.799 for $1,260, was sixth. Ashley Day, Montana, aboard Queen of Bullets, 14.833 for $1,063, was seventh. Jana Griemsman, South Dakota, aboard Chase it with Brandy, 14.842 for $866 was eighth. Renie Schnitzler, Saskatchewan aboard KRK Straw, 14.856 for $669, was ninth. Cally Worth, South Dakota, aboard JRT Lilys Cash, 14.879 for $511, was tenth.

With the American Qualifiers rolling their times, Kruse won an additional $1,338 for first in the Open 5D and WPRA for $421 for a weekend total of $6,286 for the Wyoming young gun.

The Permit winner was Brooke Black, Idaho aboard Annabelle with a smoking time of 14.89. The Senior sidepot was won by Melanie Adams, Utah aboard RGR Loner Boy, 14.955 for $191.

The futurity winner was Jessie Telford, Idaho, on Famous Cool Whip, 14.950 for $158.

The Top 10 Qualifiers each received Horse Coolers donated by Classic Equine, vests from Plains Horizon Equine Insurance, throw blankets from Tami Semis Saddles and Dally’O and MVP gift certificates for product. 321 Action Video was on site for a live webcast on Barrel Horse World and providing footage to RFD TV. Interval timing broke down the pattern into the various time segments and Rodeo Results offered their new app for your phone with up to moment results. Lora Thorson photography was on hand for fantastic pictures.
