BHSS to host National Championships for American Sheep Shearers Council

RAPID CITY – The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo will be the host for the National Championships for the American Sheep Shearers Council on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The free event begins at 10 a.m. and will determine which two competitors will advance to the 2013 World Sheep Shearing Championships. The world championships will run in conjunction with the Black Hills Sheep Shearing Championships.

“We are excited to bring the National Championships to Rapid City,” said Alex Moser, President of the American Sheep Shearers Council. “The Black Hills Stock Show has been a great show for us and shows tremendous support for our industry.”

The championships will feature approximately 75 shearers competing at the event.

According to Ron Jeffries, General Manager of the Black Hills Stock Show, the addition of the national championships will help this aspect of the show grow. “This is great news for the Black Hills Stock Show and Rapid City. Our shearers will be competing on a national stage with the top two professional shearers advancing to the world finals.”
