BHSSR Ranch Rodeo entries set new record

The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo (BHSSR) is pleased to announce that the Ranch Rodeo has set a new record for team entries with 60 teams entering the 2012 contest.

The 240 team members represent nine states. This surpasses the 2011 event that drew 53 teams from eight states.

“The popularity of this event continues to push the seating capacity of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to its limits,” said event chair Kevin Schmidt. “There is not a bad seat in the house and this year they will be hanging from the rafters!”

The 60-team format requires an elimination round starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The 60 teams will compete for event money during the day and the chance to be one of the top 12 teams to advance to the finals at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for either performance.

The total prize package will be over $20,000 with cash and prizes.

The Crew Crop Insurance team from Philip, SD, won the event in 2011 and will return to defend their title.

“Bragging rights is just about as important as any prize money on this deal,” said Schmidt. “You can bet you will see the best wranglers and cowboys at this year’s event.
