The Nine Iron Seedstock Producers is a group of nine who combine their efforts every year to produce an outstanding set of Angus, composites and hybrid bulls, representing over 200 years of seedstock production. Each of these producers strive for the following priorities: calving ease, breed leading performance, phenotypic excellence, maternal power, moderate mature size and utilization of heterosis.
The Nine Iron Producers include these reputation herds: Butch and Peg Black, Vince and Lori Poppe, Jake and Bree Poppe, Carter Miklovich, Karl and Janice Hueftle, Lindner Ranches, Darold and Lorna Tomscheck, Bill and Chris Johns, and R.D. Sutphen and family.
The Black Ranches sale facility is a unique sale barn – a hoop barn, with a whole lot more. They have an office and kitchen serving area that is second to none. The dividing wall between the kitchen and the sale barn is designed as a false front of a frontier town. It is decorated to the hilt with different businesses, and even a few dancing girls. Top selling bull of the day was the Lot 1 Angus bull, TDL Objective, selling for $4,500 to Vic and Jane Krause of Alliance, NE. This son of SS Objective T510 was out of a daughter of Mytty In Focus, and hit the ground at 82 pounds. He weaned at 846 pounds and reached a yearling weight of 1,201 pounds. His EPDs are +1.4 BW, +73 WW, +116 YW and +28 MILK.
Harry Sutton of Ashby, NE paid $4,100 to own Lot 156, a composite bull. He was sired by PIE Advance Mark 1 and out of HXC5111 by Dream On. This red bull was 25 percent Simmental and 75 percent Red Angus.
Repeat buyer Jim Schnetzer from Wolsey, SD bought Lot 155 at $4,000. This bull was an F-1 Simmental X Red Angus bull that had a 110 REA ratio. With an 86 pound birth weight, he weaned at 658 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1,177 pounds.
Lot 128 was a composite bull sired by NIS Cahonnies 4513R. His name was NIS Full Cort 6014W, and he sold for $3,800 to Mike Vaughn from Kyle, SD. He had an 87 pound birth weight, weaned at 735 pounds and had a yearling weight of 1,266 pounds.
