Buffalo Regional High School Rodeo a soggy success

Jan Swan Wood

The Buffalo Regional High School Rodeo was held June 5, 6, and 7 at Buffalo, SD. Despite temperatures in the 40’s and intermittent wind and rain, the contestants persevered and brought in good scores and times. The hardiness of the Northwest Region contestants, parents, fans and horses was demonstrated throughout the weekend. Despite less than ideal arena conditions, no injuries were serious enough for an ambulance ride and no stock was seriously injured or drowned.

This was a qualifying event for the State High School Finals which will be held June 25-28 at Belle Fourche, SD. South Dakota High School Rodeo is set up on a point system with each go-around of the two-day regional rodeos counted as a qualifying rodeo. The Northwest Region will also have a qualifying rodeo on June 12-14 at Dupree, SD.

Following are the first through fifth placings for all the regional rodeos held throughout the state.
