Carl Dethlefs & Sons 42nd Annual Production Sale

The Dethlefs family has been in the Angus business for over 60 years, selling Angus bulls for over 50 years and their March 5, 2010 sale was the 42nd annual sale they have held. Through the entire time, the goal has remained the same, raise excellent growth cattle that will perform in the feedlot and produce outstanding replacement females. This is a third generation Angus family, with the fourth generation already showing a great interest in the operation.
The bulls in the sale have been conditioned to sell as two-year-olds. They had been out on pasture since last spring with a very minimal grain ration started in the fall. They had not been pushed, but were in very good sale condition. This was a stout set of two-year-old bulls, showing extra muscle expression and thickness with a little extra frame to cover rough country and get the cows bred. The yearling bulls were some of the oldest of the 2009 calf crop. They were weaned in mid October and grown out on a high roughage ration to ensure soundness and longevity.
Topping the sale was Lot 98, Loup Valley Connection 8263, a 4/10/08 son of Paws Up Connection 551N. This bull has EPDs of BW +1.2, WW +55, YW +98, Milk +22, with a 205 wt. of 761 pounds and 365 wt of 1,390 pounds and sold to long time repeat buyer, Bill Dugan of Greeley, NE for $7,600.
