Carmichael Herefords Annual Production Sale
Carmichael Herefords is a real cowman’s performance program. Headquartered in the big, rolling ranch country of western South Dakota, this outfit has established a reputation for breeding superior performance range cattle. Founded by well-respected breeder-cowman, the late James Carmichael, this herd has been built upon Hereford’s most proven Line One genetics with cowherd traits as the number-one priority. The Carmichael bred Herefords are efficient, functional, working cattle – the product of their West River hard grass country and rigid selection pressure for balanced traits and good uddered, fertile, productive mother cows.
Keith and Brian Carmichael with their mother, Dorothy, staged the family’s 42nd annual production sale at the ranch near Meadow, SD. A full house crowd of cattlemen from South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Nebraska and Minnesota was at ringside to evaluate the strongest set of high-quality, well-developed, breeding bull prospects this operation has ever sold.
A fast-paced auction saw buyers compete to invest in the black baldie crossbreeding power of Hereford bulls and the predictable, linebred performance, uniformity and maternal strength that have made the Carmichael reputation. This was the best sale on record for a breeder whose name has long-stood strong among many of West River South Dakota’s most respected commercial cowmen. It was a standout offering of well-bred, rugged bulls; great demand for good Hereford cattle with good cowmen bidding in a rapid-fire sale. It was a very good day!
