Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center fall branding set for Sept. 17

On Saturday, Sept. 17 between the hours of Noon and 4 p.m., the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center will be the site for a branding event that will allow owners of cattle or horse brands to burn their brand into the timbers of the rodeo center walkway.

Approximately 150 South Dakota ranchers have already branded the walkway. This “artwork” has proven to be quite an added feature of the center’s cedar walkway. The brands are all unique and visitors to the center find them quite interesting. Each brand sponsor receives a personalized nameplate directly under their brand, passes to the center and lunch tickets for the day of the branding. Cost of this brand sponsorship is $200, plus tax.

The museum will also be showcasing a new exhibit focusing on the ranches in the Cheyenne River Reservation area of Haakon, Ziebach, Meade, and Dewey Counties. Items such as maps, photos, antique tools, artifacts, awards, books, branding irons, tack, ranch gear, historical documents and other items that represent the history and story of these ranches.

Brian Bergeleen and the Company Cowboys will entertain branders and visitors with their special nostalgic style of western music from Noon to 2 p.m.

For further information as to how to become a brand sponsor, or to provide an article for the ranching exhibit, contact Janice Bartels at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center at 605-494-1094 or Jeri Vines at 605-200-1008.
