Casey Tibbs upcoming events celebrate the western way of life

The Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center is hosting a branding event and the 19th Annual Casey Tibbs Match of Champions Bronc ride on, June 2, 2012.

The branding event is at the Rodeo Center from noon-4 p.m. where you can meet your friends, enjoy a western lunch, take a tour of the Rodeo Center and observe some horsemanship. Ranchers can burn their brands into the cedar columns of the Rodeo Center’s main entryway for a $200 donation. We’ll be conducting two free horseshoeing and colt taming demonstrations for the public.

The activity moves to the Stanley County Fairgrounds at 4:00 p.m. for the steak feed and live music by the Medicine Creek Band. The bronc match starts at 7:00 p.m. with a special ceremony to honor the 200th South Dakota National Guard Unit. The match is a two round event this year – with ten stock contractors showcasing three of their best young broncs in a $12,500 futurity in the first round and ten hand picked National Finals Rodeo broncs competing in the championship round. Thirty of the top cowboys in the nation, including four past world champions, will be compete for the $15,000 rider’s purse.

In addition to the bronc riding action, we will hold a special ceremony to award the first Johnny Smith Memorial bronzes to Billy Etbauer and his family; Harry and Kristen Vold for their great rodeo bronc, Painted Valley; and the Johnny Smith family.

Advance tickets are $13 (through May 31). Tickets at the gate are $15, or Gold Buckle Reserved Seating for $30 (limited number available).
