Casper College Hosts 36th Annual Lamb and Pig Sale
The Casper College Agriculture Department is hosting its 36th Annual Lamb and Pig Sale on Saturday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the Casper College Grace Werner Agricultural Pavilion on the Casper College campus. Viewing of the animals up for sale, including goats, will begin at 10:30 a.m.
“This is a great chance for kids to buy a high quality pig, lamb or goat for show purposes,” said Heath Hornecker, Casper College agriculture instructor. According to Hornecker 35 to 40 lambs, 60 to 70 pigs, and a number of goats, will be up for sale at the auction. “These are young animals that will be raised for 4-H and FFA projects. Folks buy these animals and then feed them to their optimal weight.” According to Hornecker, last year’s 2015 Division 1 Market Lamb at the Wyoming State Fair and the 2015 Champion Market Hog at the Platte County Fair were both sold in last year’s sale.
Consignors attending the auction come from Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, and Nebraska. Lamb consignors scheduled to attend are: Burch Club Lambs, Carlisle Club Lambs, Double D Ranch, Griffiths Club Lambs, Hornecker Club Lambs, and Meyers Club Lambs all from Wyoming; DeLong/Kawcak Club Lambs from Colorado; and Crazy H Club Lambs from Montana.
Pig consignors scheduled to attend are: Black Show Pigs, Burkett Show Pigs and Custis Show Pigs, all from Wyoming; and S&D Show Pigs from Nebraska. Market goat consignors who will attend are Devils Tower FFA, Dietz Livestock from Montana and Marvin Show Goats from Colorado. The Casper College Agriculture Department will also have lambs and pigs raised by the department at the sale.
The auction is used as a learning experience for the Casper College Agriculture Club members, who are responsible for the set-up and handling of the event. Proceeds from the auction will go to the club to help with general and travel expenses.
