Caspers wins 2008 Bid Calling Championship

A warm and windy late summer day greeted attendees and contestants for the annual South Dakota Auctioneers Association (SDAA) Bid Calling Championship, held in conjunction with the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. Spectators and bidders packed the Dakotaland Stage tent and overflowed onto the concourse as they listened to some of the talent offered by members of the association. With 112 bid numbers handed out prior to the auction, there was no shortage of participants waiting to take home their auction prizes. The 2007 Bid Calling Champion, Jud Seaman of Rapid City, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

In the contest this year, there were 13 entries from around the state and two surrounding states. Participants included Yvette VanDerBrink of Hardwick, MN; Chisum Peterson of Chamberlain; Bob Julson of Garretson; Scott Moore of Centerville; Don Curtis of Mitchell; Jeff Temme of Petersburg, NE; Bill Eckert of Okaton; Marlin Fjelland of Clark; Brian Driscoll of DeSmet; Ted Petrak of Chamberlain; Carl Schwab of Andover; Nick Caspers of Hecla and John McDowell of Rapid City.
