Central States Fair rodeo to add breakaway
Rapid City, SD, (May 8, 2019) – The Central States Fair is very pleased to announce two big changes to the Range Days Rodeo for 2019. First off, a brand-new event is being added and it features cowgirls.
The Range Days Rodeo will feature women’s breakaway roping for the first time and today we are excited to announce that the event will be sanctioned by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). The WPRA is the oldest women’s sports organization in the country and is recognized as the leader in sanctioning women’s professional rodeo.
“As the Badlands Circuit Director, I could not be happier to have Rapid City Range Days Rodeo on board as the Badlands Circuit’s first ever WPRA approved rodeo in the breakaway roping! This committee knocked it out of the park by adding equal added money to this event and providing an opportunity for professional breakaway ropers on an enormous stage! Thank you, Clay, Cory, and all of the committee, for your partnership and loyalty to the WPRA,” said Heidi Uecker-Schmidt
“We are elated to have Rapid City Range Days on board including WPRA Breakaway with Equal Added Money! This is a great time for Breakaway ropers because of great committees like Range Days paving the way for rodeo cowgirls,” said WPRA Roping Director Patti McCutchen.
The addition of breakaway roping provides another avenue to impact the growth of Western Sports. The Roping program has been an integral part of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association since its start in 1948.
But wait, there is more! The Range Days Rodeo also has the pleasure of being added as a 2019 WPRA Barrel Racing Tour Event, which is awarded to a select number of events throughout the year.
“The WPRA Tour has led to some incredible opportunities for me personally. I was able to stick closer to home, enter circuit rodeos and a few farther away tour rodeos. The Tour also allowed me an entry into Calgary, and I couldn’t be more excited about going North in July! The Tour has also opened so many other doors for me along the way,” said Kaylee Gallino, 2018 WPRA Tour Champion from Wasta, South Dakota.
The Central States Fair and Range Days Rodeo will be the host for this new event on Wednesday, August 21, Friday, August 23, and Saturday, August 24, 2019, as part of the Central States Fair. Thursday, August 22 will feature the PRCA Xtreme Broncs Finals, also a new event for the Range Days Rodeo.
