Certified Wool Classing School is Nov. 19-22 in Hettinger

A Certified Wool Classing School is scheduled for Nov. 19-22 at the Hettinger Research Extension Center in Hettinger, ND. The focus of the school is to provide the U.S. sheep industry with trained wool classers who can class domestic wool for improved quality, which is imperative to American wool becoming more competitive and available in the international as well as domestic markets.

Some of the topics to be covered in the class include wool fiber growth, objective measurement of wool, wool contamination, handling practices and packaging, labeling and marking. To fine tune the skill of wool classing, students will be given the opportunity to work through and grade a number of wool samples.

The course will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost of the school is $175 per student and includes tuition as well as all supplies, manuals and a wool handling DVD. Class size is limited to 12.
