Christensen Simmental Annual Production Sale

Chris and Sheila Christensen along with their daughter Amy and family hosted the annual Christensen Simmental Production Sale at the ranch on April 24, 2010. The driving rain and muddy conditions may have kept some extra spectators away but by sale time there was a very respectable crowd of buyers on hand to sort thru the sale offering.

Christensen Simmental specializes in raising high-performance Simmental and Angus based cattle including registered and commercial bulls and heifers, and club calves. These cattle are bred to thrive in South Dakota range conditions on a roughage-based diet with no creep feed. The bulls were in great working condition. The sale offering included a wide variety of bulls and females that will fit the needs of any breeder or commercial cattleman.

The top selling bull on the day was Lot 24, a 3/5/09 SimAngus bull sired by 9K NO Regrets and out of Genetics by Design dam. He sold for $5,000 to Cattle Connection of Niobrara, NE.

Lot 9, a 4/29/09 bull SimAngus bull sired by Berbos New Day 5172 with EPDs of BW 0.1, WW 35.5, YW 70.6 and MM 9.1, sold at $4,250 to Darwin Michalski of Willow Lake, SD.

Lot 6, sold to Arhart Farms of Alpena, SD for $4,000. This 3/26/09 bull by TC Total 410 has EPDs of BW -1.7,WW 42.9, YW 82.2 and MM 10.8.

Lot 7, a 3/30/09 SimAngus bull sired by Berbos Right Time 5161 with EPDs of BW 0.8, WW 46.8, YW 81.7 and MM 6.2, sold for $3,800 to Todd Mortenson of Hayes, SD.

Lot 10, a 3/29/09 bull sired by TC Total 410 with EPDs of BW .5, WW 39.5, YW 79.3 and MM 13.5, sold to Curwin Bratland of Bryant, SD for $3,500.

Lot 31 also sold at $3,500 to Josh Larson of Worthing, SD. This 3/13/09 bull sired by KCF Bennet Architect M299 has EPDs of BW -3.8, WW 33.1, YW 66.8 and MM 2.7.

Roger Hainy of Wessington Springs, SD purchased the two top selling heifer calves. Lot 126, a 3/27/09 SimAngus heifer sired by Meyer Ranch 734, sold for $2,600. Lot 125, a 3/18/09 SimAngus heifer sired by TC Total 410, sold for $2,000.
