Christman, Smith to judge 2009 NRCA Championship Finals rodeo

The Northwest Ranch Cowboys Association, a regional professional rodeo organization with rodeos sanctioned in North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska, is pleased to announce that Chuck Christman and Earl Smith have been selected by their peers to be judges at the 2009 NRCA Championship Finals Rodeo, Trade Show and Convention to be held at the CamPlex in Gillette, WY on Nov. 27-29, 2009.

Christman, a Lemmon, SD area rodeo cowboy and rancher, and his wife of 35 years still operate the ranch where he was literally born and raised, running purebred Hereford cattle and Quarter Horses while also raising three children.

“My dad delivered me during a blizzard because back then we didn’t have the equipment we have now to keep the roads open,” says Christman. “I always told my kids and grandkids I was born between the house and the barn.”

Christman has been involved in rodeo every since he could remember.

“I started out riding calves when I was six years old… and won my first all around trophy at 10 at a youth rodeo where I won the pony bareback riding, calf riding and barrel race,” he says.

Christman’s rodeo road has led him through the ranks of 4-H, High School, Amateur and Pro Rodeo as a contestant where he competed in bull riding for 13 years and as a calf roper for 25. In addition to his involvement as a contestant, Christman has also served on numerous Boards and Committee’s revolving around rodeo and community – Boss Cowman Rodeo Committee for 30 years ( 13 as Chairman), Junior Livestock Show (8 county 4-H show & sale) for 25 years and most recently being seated as a County Commissioner in Adams County.
