CNFR first round update
BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota State University women’s rodeo team has finished the first round of competition in second place.
The College National Finals Rodeo is underway in Casper, WY. The SDSU men’s rodeo team currently is in 11th place overall.
SDSU head rodeo coach Ron Skovly said the teams are making a statement already.
“We ended up taking both second and third places in round one of the barrels, with Cally Thomas of Harrold taking second and reigning champion Rachel Tiedeman in third,” Skovly said. “Our senior Brent Sutton from Onida scored a 3.8 in the bulldogging competition, so he is right in the mix between second and third place.”
Skovly added that Sutton is in ninth place in calf roping with a 11.1, while SDSU’s Tyrell Moody of Letcher is holding 11th place in calf roping at the first round’s finish.
In other events, team ropers Colby Porch of Wanblee and Blake Baade of Artesian are tied for fourth place, while Shawn Flottmeyer of Pierre and Olivia Boll of Waconia, Minn. made two good goat-tying runs that put them only one second off the pace.
Skovly plans to make daily updates on the team’s progress as the National College Finals Rodeo continues.
