Commodity Marketing Basics & Beyond workshop is Jan. 19 in Rapid City

Managing livestock market risk is critical in the current economic environment. Understanding market signals, basis and terminology are key factors in gaining confidence in commodity marketing and taking advantage of available opportunities.
Producers interested in learning more about utilizing commodity markets as part of a marketing plan should consider attending the Commodity Marketing Basics and Beyond session on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the West River Ag Center in Rapid City, SD.
This hands-on workshop begins with an overview of the basics of commodity marketing, which will include terminology, basis and a discussion on options and hedging. The afternoon session features broker Rich Blair discussing market indicators and current trends. The workshop begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.
Pre-register by calling the West River Ag Center at 605-394-2236 by Jan. 16. There is a $15 fee which includes the cost of lunch. To attend the workshop in Brookings, SD, a satellite location has been set up in the Walstrom Room in Animal Science on the campus of South Dakota State University.
