Matt Johnson, Garretson, S.D., judged the Sioux Empire Farm Show Charolais Show Jan. 28 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Johnson chose lot 8, WDZ WF Bluegrass 5032, a consignment from Zehnder Cattle, Stanchfield, Minn., as champion bull. He was sired by LT Bluegrass 4017P and out of WDZ KF Twizzler 937P. He sold to Dave Miller, Howard, S.D., for $4,000.
Reserve champion bull went to lot 13, MC Northern 2250 385, a consignment from McGunegill Charolais, Jasper, Minn. He was sired by Raile 2250 T077 and out of MC Northern Lady 832. He sold to Mike McCall, Castana, Iowa, for $3,500.
The highest selling bull came from Vedvei Charolais Ranch, Lake Preston, S.D., and sold to Jerrod Fast, Iroquios, S.D., for $5,750.
One of the second highest selling bulls came from VanDyke Charolais, Elkton, S.D., and sold to Mike McCall for $4,500. The other second highest selling bull came from Wells Charolais Ranch, Conde, S.D., and sold to Drew Huber, Conde, for $4,500.
Johnson chose lot 3, NGC Leah 517C ET, a consignment from North Grove Charolais, Grove City, Minn., as champion female. She was sired by KEYS All State 149X and out of 2H Wildflower 017X PLD ET. She was the highest selling female and sold to Lance VanRoekel, Larchwood, Iowa, for $4,750.
Johnson chose lot 2, Wells MS Generator 5527, as reserve champion female. She was consigned by Wells Charolais Ranch. She was sired by KCM Generator 209Z and out of TR Oahe Wind 6527S. She was the second highest selling female and sold to Chris Nielsen, Sioux Falls, for $3,500.
Seth Weishaar, Belle Fourche, S.D., served as auctioneer for the Charolais Sale. He auctioned 14 bulls and two females. Fourteen bulls averaged $3,350, and the two females averaged $4,125.
