Days of ’76 ‘Tough Enough to Wear Pink’ to benefit Northern Hills residents
DEADWOOD, SD – Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital Foundation (LDRHF), Hay Creek Ranch and The Days of ’76 Rodeo Committee are once again teaming up for a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” (TETWP) campaign in the Deadwood area. TETWP is a campaign to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.
The TETWP events kick off with the “Ride in Pink” on July 11 and 12, at the Hay Creek Ranch northwest of Nemo. It will consist of trail rides, a barbecue, cowboy music, cowboy poetry, cowboy church and an auction.
The Days of ’76 TETWP PRCA Rodeo will take place on Friday, July 24, where contestants and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
“During the rodeo last year, it was amazing to see so many fans in the stands and many of the toughest contestants in the rodeo wearing pink,” said Karen Carr, Director of Fundraising at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital Foundation. “The campaign allows us to have some fun and raise funds for cancer in our community. The funds will help with cancer awareness, screenings and patient services through the Foundation. I am very proud to be a part of something so important.”
During the month of July, TETWP T-shirts will be sold at various locations in Deadwood, including the Days of ’76 Rodeo Grounds, Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, Lead Chamber of Commerce, Hay Creek Ranch, Round House Liquors, Cadillac Jacks, First Gold, Four Aces, Mineral Palace and Silverado. The proceeds will be used to provide cancer screenings, education and cancer services to the residents of the Northern Hills.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $20,000 for the LDRHF. The funds were used to provide free PSA and other cancer tests, help patients with medical bills, purchase mammography education materials and to purchase gas cards to help cancer patients with cost of transportation for treatment. Funds were also donated to Family Health Education Services in Spearfish, an income-based clinic for women and children.
“Doug and Jody Lindgren of Hay Creek Ranch, the Days of ’76 Committee and all of the Lead and Deadwood businesses helped make last year’s campaign a success by spreading the word as well as buying and selling T-shirts,” said Carr. “We hope this year’s campaign is just as big a success as last year.”
