Dean Odden still remembers the first time he ever saw Charolais. He was in the first grade when he had the opportunity to see some of the first Charolais cattle coming in to the United States. It was at that point when Odden knew he wanted to make the cattle business his future. Odden grew up around cattle and horses, and he credits his mentors for raising him to love the land and the livestock. With a passion that runs deep, Odden made sure his own children would have the same love of agriculture that he did.

Nestled in the winding Green Valley near Ree Heights, SD is the Dean Odden and Sons Ranch, a purebred Charolais and Red Angus operation that is run by Dean and his wife Susi. Dean and Susi have three children – Matthew, Joe and Chris. Of their operation, there are several things that they are proud of, but they have discovered the most important is family.
