DeGrand Angus – Raising Registered Angus since 1974

Ranchers from a wide area gathered at the new location for the DeGrand Angus sale. The weather was cool on sale day, but once the people sorted through the highway construction, there was a big crowd of very serious buyers.
Owners and hosts for the day were Art and Kathy DeGrand, and they presented the bulls in a relatively modest condition. There were many repeat buyers on the seats, and they, along with some new faces, bid very aggressively – appreciating these good rancher raised bulls.
The DeGrands run a big herd of registered cows so they can be very selective in the bulls that make the sale, putting a lot of emphasis on disposition (and this showed up during the sale).
Top selling bull of the day was shared by two bulls in Lots 13 and 14, each selling for $4,600. Both were sired by SAV Final Answer 0035. The Lot 13 bull sold to the Mead Ranch from Jackson, WY and was out of a daughter of HA Image Maker 0415. He had a birth weight of 80 pounds, a weaning weight of 749 pounds to ratio 114, and a yearling weight of 1,120 pounds to ratio 113. His EPDs were +1.8 BW, +63 WW, +26 MILK and +102 YW.
The Lot 14 bull was out of a daughter of Brooks Freightliner 512 who had ratioed 109 on her first calf. EPDs for this bull included +0.8 BW, +56 WW, +25 MILK and +99 YW. Born at 72 pounds, he weaned at 718 pounds. His new owner was Rodney Sturgis from Savage, MT.
The Mead Ranch was back to buy Lot 18 at $4,300. This son of Boyd New Day 8005 was out of a daughter of SUA 616 140Z and had EPDs of +2.1 BW, +52 WW, +23 MILK and +95 YW.
Lot 72, a son of Brooks Freightliner 512 was out of a daughter of Diamond Millenium 184J who had ratioed 102 on five calves. He hit the ground at 76 pounds, then weaned at 715 pounds to ratio 108. His yearling weight of 1,136 pounds showed a ratio of 114. This bull headed home with Gordon Rustad from Baker, MT for $3,800.
Mike Sonsalla from Marmarth, ND made Lot 16 his top selection at $3,800. This son of SAV Final Answer 0035 was out of a daughter of BT Right Time 24J and had an 65 pound birth weight before weaning at 692 pounds. His EPDs were -1.1 BW, +54 WW, +21 MILK and +91 YW.
This was a good sale for the DeGrand family, and they take good care of their customers, including a nice reception for their buyers at the Tavern after the sale.
