DeLauro praises FSIS traceback proposal on ground beef
The Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service Thursday proposed new traceback procedures when it or another federal or state agency finds raw ground beef or bench trim that tests positive for Escherichia coli O157:H7.
FSIS also said it will begin requesting the recall of products if an establishment was the sole supplier of beef trimmings for ground beef that tests positive.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., in a news release, praised the action, and said she would use her position on the House Appropriations Committee to obtain funding for the program.
