FDA extends deadline for comment on raw manure as fertilizer for produce

The Food and Drug Administration has extended the deadline for comments on the use of raw manure as a fertilizer for produce until July 19 because the federal rulemaking portal underwent maintenance from July 1 to 5.

The assessment of the risk of human illness associated with the consumption of produce grown in fields on which raw manure or other untreated biological soil amendments of animal origin is used as fertilizer is required under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
