FFA regional Land and Range Judging competition held September 23
The 2010 FFA Regional Land and Range Judging Competition was held Thursday, Sept. 23, in Wall, SD. More than 100 students competed from Western South Dakota schools comprising of New Underwood, Kadoka, Philip, Wall, Lemmon, Buffalo, Sturgis and Newell. The weather made the event a competition in perseverance as much as knowledge of soils and rangeland.
Kadoka FFA placed first in the Land Evaluation competition. Newell placed second in the Land Evaluation competition and first in Range Evaluation. Philip FFA placed second in Range Evaluation.
The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, their soil and range scientists, and the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands Visitors Center, hosted and conducted the valuable event for South Dakota’s youth.
