Sale: Foos Angus Ranch – 22nd Annual Production Sale

Date: Feb. 9, 2012

Location: Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange, SD

Auctioneer: Lynn Weishaar

Averages: 44 yearling Angus bulls – $5,347

Foos Angus Ranch, owned by Renee and Bryce Foos, hosted a packed house at Belle Fourche Livestock in Belle Fourche, SD, for their 22nd annual bull sale.

The Foos’s cow herd is a very maternally bred herd that has had generations of like kind genetics incorporated into it, over the last 20 years. The Foos family has used their own genetics, as well as home-raised sons of outside sires.

The bulls are bred and raised for longevity. To do this, they are not pushed for maximum gain, but are brought along at a rate to express their own natural muscle pattern.

The weather was a little windy, but the sun was out and it was a fantastic day for a bull sale. This very fast-paced sale stayed strong until the very end.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 25, selling for $7,750 to High Ingalls Centennial Angus, Faith, SD. He was a long-bodied son of Crook MT Windy 17, and out of a daughter of NF Tracker 667. His EPDs were: CED 9, BW -0.1, WW 52, YW 81, CEM 8 and Milk 25. He was a recommended heifer bull with a 78 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 702 pounds to ratio: 112.

The E. B. Ranch, Broadus, MT, chose Lot 3 at $7,250. Here was a son of PRA Hero 914. His mother was a daughter of Connealy Timeline who had ratio 104, on 5 calves. This bull was a calving ease bull with a 79 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 657 pounds to ratio: 104. His EPDs were: CED 10, BW -0.4, WW 52, YW 87, CEM 9 and Milk 24.

Long time repeat buyers, Troy and Vicki Tope, Hulett, WY, topped their purchases with Lot 33 at $7,000. He was a son of NF Tracker 45, and out of a daughter of WMR Tracker 003 who had ratioed 101, on 4 calves. With an 88 pound birth weight, he weaned at 662 pounds to ratio: 105. His EPDs were: CED 6, BW 1.6, WW 46, YW 81, CEM 6 and Milk 28.

The gavel fell at $7,000 with David Donahey, Capital, MT, as the new owner of Lot 7. This was another calving ease bull with a 77 pound birth weight. He was sired by Crook Mt Really Windy 8834, and out of a daughter of CAR Hero 704. He posted EPDs of: CED 10, BW -0.7, WW 46, YW 77, CEM 7 and Milk 24. This good bull weaned at 670 pounds to ratio: 107.

The Smith Angus Ranch, Buffalo, SD, found Lot 9 to their liking at $7,000. He was another long-bodied son of Crook Mt Really Windy 8834. Out of a daughter of NF Tracker 667, he hit the ground at 71 pounds, and then grew to a weaning weight of 633 pounds.

A very special day for the Foos family, and Vicki Tope’s pie will keep you coming back to the Belle Fourche Livestock Cafe.
