This program has focused on breeding moderately framed, maternal, easy-fleshing cattle with calving ease and a lot of performance. Corey and Roger have purchased some outstanding herd bulls over the years, and their sons and daughters are now having a big effect on this program.
This year's set of bulls was very uniform, and the sale stayed strong all the way through. There was especially good demand on the calving ease bulls.
I thought that this was a tremendous set of bulls that looked just the way they were bred to be.
Top selling bull of the day was Lot 48, selling to Jeff Nelson, Philip, S.D., for $17,000. He was a son of Sitz Rainmaker 714X and out of a daughter of Sitz Game Day 8636 who is a donor dam in the Rafter U Cross herd. He began with a 70 lb. birth weight, weaned at 811 lb. to ratio 109, and then had a yearling weight of 1,280 lb. to ratio 109. His EPDs were CED 6, BW 1.6, WW 52, YW 87, and MILK 20. He scanned a 15.8 sq. in. rib eye and posted an IMF ratio of 143.
Jeff Nelson also bought two other good bulls in Lots 47 and 29. The Lot 47 bull brought $14,000, and he was a son of Sitz Rainmaker 714X. Commanding some attention was Lot 4, a son of Connealy Confidence 0100. He was out of a 004 Traveler 4412 daughter and had a 75 lb. birth weight. This was a great sale for the Fortune family. I can only believe that this program will grow, and many more people will have to take notice. Congratulations!
