The decision to postpone a production sale is not an easy one, but it was sure the right move for Frey Angus when they postponed their 35th annual bull sale from Feb. 8 to April 19. Early February in this area was not very conducive to travel and bull sales. However the rescheduled day was bright and sunny for the Frey families and the large crowd of new and repeat buyers that came to the ranch to purchase their next herd bull.

The Frey Angus outfit consists of brothers Lynn, Arlen and Edward Frey and their families. This is an operation that has been serving the seed stock needs of North Central ND and beyond for several decades. They are committed to producing genetically sound, functional cattle with lots of extra performance, but still feed out efficiently.

This year’s bulls were full of thickness and depth. There was a lot of growth and performance, but still an excellent selection of lighter birth weight calving ease bulls. Offered in the sale were strong age and yearling Angus and Red Angus bulls with a wide variety of genetics to fit most herds.

Topping the sale was Lot 33, a 1/12/09 bull sired by SAV Net Worth 4200 and out of a daughter of Krugerrand 21 D with EPDs of BW 5.0, WW 64, Milk 28 and YW 93. This bull had a WR of 123 and sold to Kal Kota Ranch of Steele, ND for $8,000.

Lot 55, a 1/23/09 bull sired by Bexter and out of a FAR Better Direction daughter, has EPDs of BW 2.9, WW 65, Milk 27, YW 98 with a WR of 122 sold to longtime repeat buyer Bruner Angus of Drake, ND for $7,500.

Lot 34, a 2/1/09 bull sired by Net Worth out of a FAR Out 378M daughter with EPDs of BW 6.1, WW 53, Milk 29 and YW 99, sold to Austin Jensen of Zap, ND for $5,750.

Lot 59, a 1/13/09 bull sired by Bexter out of a Connealy Kaboom Daughter with EPDs of BW .8, WW 56, Milk 22 and YW 104, sold to Fox Angus Farm of Watertown, SD for $5,250.

Selling at $5,000 was Lot 45, a 1/24/09 bull sired by Mytty In Focus and out of a FAR Target daughter with EPDs of BW 2.0, WW 53, Milk 19 and YW 86, to Austin Jensen of Zap, ND.

The top selling Red Angus bulls both sold to Bailey Ranch of Towner, ND. Lot 77, a 2/8/09 bull sired by Mulberry 26P out of a Grand Prix 102 daughter with EPDs of BW 2.1, WW 33, Milk 19 and YW 66, sold for $5,500. Selling at $4,750 was Lot 72, a 3/24/09 bull sired by Grand Prix 522 and out of a FAR Bulldozer daughter with EPDs of BW 3.1, WW 38, Milk 16 and YW 69.
