Gillette College rodeo teams named Champion, Reserve in Central Rocky Mountain Region

The Women’s and Men’s Rodeo team from Gillette College finished one-two, for the season, with the Women’s team earning their second Regional Championship title and the Men’s team winning Reserve.

The Central Rocky Mountain Region consists of 16 schools, a mixture of two- and four-year programs. “Of these 16 schools, Gillette College is once again the only school to qualify two teams to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR),” said Will LaDuke, Gillette College Rodeo head coach.

The Women’s Rodeo team win marks their second in the program’s four-year history. “The girls team dominated the spring schedule, winning first [place] at four of the five rodeos,” LaDuke said.

“It takes a lot of hard work and our girls practice hard every day, mentally and physically,” added assistant coach Jessi Cates.

Gillette’s College CNFR Women’s Team consists of: Chelsea Moore, Dawson Creek, BC, Canada, competing in goat tying, breakaway roping and barrel racing; Jordan Thurston, Lance Creek, WY, competing in goat tying; and Crystal Hershey, Newcastle, WY, competing in barrel racing.

The Men’s Rodeo team will also represent at the 2011 CNFR, and will include: Cole Elshere, Faith, SD, Chancy Miller, Faith, SD, and Dane Kissack, Spearfish, SD, all competing in saddle bronc riding; Casey Burer, Mandan, ND, competing in bareback riding; and Nathan Schaper, Grassy Butte, ND and Rance Maddocks, Hecla, SD, both competing in bull riding.
