The Hojer family held their annual production sale in Huron, SD, with a full house packed into the Magness Livestock Pavilion. The buyers came to bid on an outstanding set of Gelbvieh and Balancer seedstock – the result of years of dedicated selection.

The top-selling bull was Lot 102 going to Jon Anderson, Bryant, SD, for $5,300. He was a Feb. 6, 2010 Balancer sired by JHG Premonition 662S ET, out of a SDS Newsline 654S daughter. This long-sided bull weaned off the cow at 850 lbs. and had stacked polled and black genetics with a balanced EPD package.

Lot 100 sold for $5,000 and went to Brent Heezen, Wessington Springs, SD. He was a Jan. 27, 2010 three-quarter brother to the top-selling bull and posted an adjusted yearling weight of 1,369 lbs.

Rick Bauer of Harrold, SD, selected Lot 110 at $4,750 for his program. He was a March 20, 2010 bull sired by JDPD Astro 407S. He was a calving ease bull that had an 81-lb. birth weight and a 1,322 lb. yearling weight.

Triple O Ranch, Langford, SD, purchased several of the better bulls, paying $4,700 for Lot 52, a Feb. 27, 2010 purebred calving ease son of BNC T7 1222. They also purchased Lot 73 for $4,500. He was a Jan. 12, 2010 son of BNC P455 that had EPDs of BW 2.6, WW 59 and YW 103.

Jeff Carstens of Bryant, SD, paid $4,600 for Lot 96. He was a March 12, 2010 son of VER Big Whiskey 567P – a black Balancer with light birth weight and nice growth numbers.

Two other bulls sold for $4,500 each. A March son of JDPD Astro 407S sold to Rick Wehri, New Castle, WY. A January son of JHG Premonition 662S ET with outstanding growth performance sold to Jon Anderson.
