International marketing specialist named in ND
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has appointed Erin Markestad as international marketing specialist in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA).
“Erin’s background in economic development and public relations will be valuable in the department’s efforts to identify and develop domestic and international markets for North Dakota farmers, ranchers and processors,” said Goehring.
A native of Maddock, Markestad graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in marketing, public relations and advertising. She returned to Maddock as the city’s economic development director and then moved to Fargo, where she worked in development and admissions at Oak Grove Lutheran School.
In her new position, Markestad will plan and coordinate international trade marketing events with international, federal, state and local agencies; provide market development assistance to North Dakota companies; conduct market research and coordinate development of markets for agriculture products, and develop and conduct educational seminars for agriculture producers and processors on various aspects of export marketing.
She will also serve as a liaison between NDDA and commodity groups, councils, associations, and organizations, including the Food Export Association of the Midwest, a cooperative effort of 12 midwestern state agricultural promotion agencies, including NDDA, and the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
