Iron Mountain Cattle Company 2012 Bull Sale
Iron Mountain Cattle Co., owned by Dan Long and managed by Mike and Kathy Davis, held their annual bull sale at the Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange on March 26, 2012. When Dan and Mike started this Angus herd a few years ago they purchased the best females from several top Angus breeders in the region. With Mike’s expertise and knowledge of the Angus breed, he selectively mated these cows to the best artificial insemination (AI) sires the Angus breed has to offer. The result of those matings was this great set of high-volume, high-performance bulls with plenty of calving ease.
The bulls were in great sale condition, showing lots of length, thickness and fleshing ability along with eye appeal. They were very well received by the large crowd on hand, which consisted of neighbors, repeat buyers along with some new faces. Under the guidance of Mike Davis and his small crew, this is an operation to keep your eye on as the bull offering will only get better in years to come.
Topping the sale was Lot 26, Iron Mtn. Total Answer 1042, a February 2011 son of SAV Final Answer out of a Pathfinder grand dam. This bull had EPDs of BW 0.1, WW 37, YW 106 and Milk 18. He sold to Dan Tracy, Newcastle, WY, for $9,250.
Micky Simons, White Owl, SD, purchased the next two top-selling bulls. Lot 3, Iron Mtn. Easy Keeper 1010, and Lot 4, Iron Mtn. Heavy Melt 1016 are full brothers in blood. Both are early February 2011 sons of SAV Bismarck and out Final Answer sired PCLC Thomas Pride daughters. Both are excellent calving ease prospects that weaned off at nearly 800 pounds and sold for $8,000 and $7,500 each.
Another Bismarck son also sold at $7,500. Lot 15, Iron Mtn. Rod Iron 1136, was a March 2011 son of Bismarck out of a New Frontier daughter, selling to Bruce Forney, Alliance, NE. This bull was also a great calving ease prospect with EPDs of BW 1.5, WW 54, YW 94 and Milk 23.
Lot 58, Iron Mtn. Bonus Time 1176, a March 2011 son of SAV Net Worth and out of the very productive ALC Lyn T03L donor cow, sold to Mike Assman, Mission, SD, for $6,750. This bull has EPDs of BW 3.2, WW 58, YW 107 and Milk 27.
