Jolene Brown to headline South Dakota Rural Women in Ag Conference, Sept. 29-30

“Threads of Our Future” is the theme for this year’s South Dakota Rural Women in Ag Conference Sept. 29-30. An annual event held at the picturesque Spearfish Canyon Lodge, the conference gives women involved in agriculture – everyone from farmers to agri-buinesswomen – a chance to learn more about the industry, network and learn about the threads that bind them as rural women.

Keynote for the women’s gathering is nationally-recognized speaker and family business consultant Jolene Brown. With a farming background, Brown gives great insight into the working minds and hearts of farm families and the hurdles they may face. Her stories are entertaining and her humor is contagious.

Other sessions will include discussions on wealth management and the Buy Fresh Buy Local program in South Dakota.

Like in past years, there will be opening sessions and fun night activities on Sept. 29 as a precursor to the main conference on Sept. 30. Outdoor photography, learning to handle media and information on new tax changes will be given during the Thursday workshops. Then, that evening settle in to a nice dinner at nearby Latchstring Inn while listening to Sid Goss of South Dakota School of Mines give an up beat and lively look at generational differences in the work place.

Cost for the conference is $45 for one day or $75 for the two days. Registration is due by Sept. 13. Contact the Harding County Extension Office for registration information at 605-375-3412 or e-mail Robin Salverson at robin.salverson@sdstate.edu.

The Spearfish Canyon Lodge near Spearfish, SD is holding a block of rooms under “Women in Ag” until Sept. 1 for $79 plus tax. Call 605-584-3435 for reservations.
