Jr. Miss Rodeo SD Newsletter

School is almost out! I don’t know about everyone else, but I am definitely relieved!

April was quite a month. I finally got to go home the weekend after Easter. I came back and carried flags at the National Professional Rodeo Association bull riding in Aberdeen. It was great to be back home and see so many people I knew! I brought a couple friends from Colorado and Wyoming back with me as well – they were absolutely shocked at all the water!

My friend Lindsey Hankins, of Ft. Collins, helped me carry flags both Friday and Saturday night. Thank you to Mosbrucker Rodeos for putting on a fantastic bull riding, and a huge thank you to Billy Joe Weiger for bringing two great horses for Lindsey and me to ride!

The following weekend, I made my way back into South Dakota, although not quite as far east. Black Hills State University in Spearfish held their annual collegiate rodeo. On Friday night, Courtney Smith, Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2009, McKenzie Haley, Miss Black Hills Stock Show 2009, and I carried flags at the rodeo. Thank you so much to everyone who let us borrow horses! We appreciated it very much.

Saturday afternoon, McKenzie and I carried flags at the short round performance, and then went to the Cowboys and Candlelight fundraiser that evening to help show items for the live auction. Thank you so much to Gabby Bush, chairman of the Black Hills Roundup board, and Curt Olson, who judged the Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota pageant last summer. They purchased and presented a beautiful headstall made and donated to the auction by Diamond S Saddlery to me for use throughout my reign. It will look great on my little mare! Another thank you goes out to McKenzie Haley for letting me stay with her for the weekend. It was so much nicer than staying in a hotel by myself!

That’s all for this month – hope everyone is having a great spring!
