June 16-19 4-H Teen Camp will include counselor training

The 2009 4-H Teen Camp is set for June 16-19 at Camp Bob Marshall in Custer.
The camp is open to youth ages 13 to 18, including both 4-H members and non-members. 4-H’ers are encouraged to invite non-member friends to the event.
The camp registration fee is $60 and is due before May 15. Participants should send payment to the 4-H club in their home county.
County 4-H clubs will mail contact information and payment to Jessica Eikmeier, Jackson County Extension Office, Box 550, Kadoka, SD 57543. Make checks to the “County Leaders’ Association.”
The camp begins at 5 p.m. June 16 and will end at approximately 2 p.m. on June 19. The South Dakota 4-H Code of Conduct is enforced during the camp.
The camp will include a wide range of activities including training for youth who wish to serve as camp counselors. In addition, off-camp adventures and workshops highlighting how teens can “SET up for Success” will take place.

Those taking part in the camp counseling training will do so in preparation for the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) Youth 4-H camp planned for later in the summer.
Teens interested in becoming camp counselors can fill out an application. Those who fulfill the duties as counselors will receive a $30 stipend.
Teen Camp is a long-standing tradition in western South Dakota. Teens are encouraged to take park in this fun leadership experience. More information is available at your county Extension office, and at the South Dakota 4-H Web site, http://4h.sdstate.edu/.
