Kappes Simmental 24th Annual Production Sale

Kappes Simmentals held their 24th annual “Genetics with a Holistic Approach” production sale at Aberdeen Livestock on Feb. 19, 2011. The weather was brisk and windy, but the blizzard held off until the day after the sale, giving everyone ample time to get back home.

The goal at Kappes Simmentals has been to offer “Holistic Genetics” that provide customers with a balance in traits, unassisted calving, performance, maternal and carcass quality all tied up in one eye-appealing package. There was a huge crowd on hand that agrees with this approach, giving the Kappes family their best sale to date. Bidders and buyers from 15 states crowded the Aberdeen Livestock Auction sale arena to purchase this thick, functional set of cattle.

Topping the sale was Lot 82, Kappes Trailblazer X621, a homozygous black, homozygous polled SimAngus sired by Kappes Trailblazer S516. This herd bull prospect has EPDs of BW -1.4, WW 34, YW 67, MM -3, MWW 14 and a 365-day weight of 1,547 lbs. Cole Sand Creek Ranch, Okemah, OK, was the buyer at $10,500



The next top seller was Lot 36, Kappes L Man X616, a 3/2/10, homozygous black, homozygous polled purebred Simmental bull sired by GW Lucky Man 644N with EPDs of BW -0.4, WW 48, YW 86, MCE 5, MM 9 and MWW 33. This bull had a 365-day weight of 1,458 lbs. and sold to long-time repeat bull buyer Roland Schnabel, Emery, SD, for $10,000
