Kourtney Hauge: Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota newsletter

As I write for the last time as the 2010 Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota (JRMRSD), I look back at the year that I have had and only one word comes to mind to describe the experiences I have had – incredible. This year has truly been the ride of a lifetime for me. I have met some amazing people, stock contractors, rodeos and some unforgettable horses. Most importantly, I traveled the state representing South Dakota’s number-one sport of rodeo and the patriotic and all-American values that come with such an phenomenal sport and the athletes within it.

Throughout this year I have represented the state of South Dakota at various events and rodeos including: 2010 Miss Rodeo South Dakota Pageant; Black Hills Roundup; Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo; 2010 South Dakota 4-H Rodeo; South Dakota 4-H Ambassadors Contest and Luncheon; SDRA Finals; Black Hills Stock Show; Wessington Springs Foothills Rodeo & Queen Contest; Cherokee Pro Rodeo in Cherokee IA; Highmore 4-H Rodeo; and the Crystal Springs Ranch Rodeo.

Since the last time I wrote, I have been very busy with finishing my first year of college and with the beginning of rodeo season. I am looking forward to what both the summer rodeo season and my sophomore year at Black Hills State University will bring to me in the future.

As mentioned in earlier newsletters, I have been busy working with new Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota sponsors for this year’s pageant. I am very excited to welcome the following new sponsors: Midstate Communications, Kimball, SD; Barber Farms, Preston and Jane Barber and family, Wessington Springs, SD; Central Electric Cooperative, Mitchell, SD; as well as East River Electric, Madison, SD. I would also like to thank Marv and Judy Jira of Circle J Ranch in Plankinton, SD, for their continuous support through the years, and for their help in purchasing such a wonderful saddle for the 2011 Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota.

My year as the 2010 JRMRSD has truly been remarkable. But as the year draws to an end, I look forward to what my future holds, realizing I am one step closer to becoming a future Miss Rodeo South Dakota for this great state. My year would not have been as great as it was without the support of some amazing people. I would especially like to thank my parents, Martin and Jody Hauge; my sister; grandparents, Dick and Delores Mathey; Cindy Wilk; Torey Berdan; the JRMRSD and MRSD Board of Directors; Mckenzie Haley; Vanessa Ternes; and all the rest of my family and friends who have made this year absolutely amazing! Also, thank you to this great state and all of its residents for their continued love of rodeo. Because of people like you, you made my year as JRMRSD the ride of a lifetime!

Love and God Bless,

Kourtney Hauge
