Kent and Janet LaDue, along with their children, Brittany, Bethany, and Brian, hosted their biggest crowd ever for their third Sunrise Angus annual bull sale. The weather was rainy, windy and snowy, and this moisture in the area only added to the positive attitude of this big crowd.
Included in this offering were a big string of SAV Final Answer sons, along with several other calving ease and maternal blood lines. The LaDues have focused their breeding program on calving ease, docility, and maternal characteristics. These cattle are easy to handle, with good dispositions.
Many repeat buyers were on the seats, with most of them being neighbors and community members of this enthusiastic young family. And if you hadn't yet met the LaDues, by the end of sale day you will have made new friends.
There was much attention paid to all the bulls that qualified as calving ease, and there were many in this sale.
Top selling bull of the day was a registered bull, Lot 309, selling for $11,500 to Mangen Angus, Broadus, Mont. Here was a really deep-sided, docile, thick middled bull, sired by SAV Final Answer 0035. Out of a daughter of Net Present Value, he had EPDs of CED 11, BW -0.5, WW 58, YW 108, and MILK 25. With a weaning weight of 788 lb. to ratio 112, he posted a yearling weight of 1297 lb. to ratio 113. He had a 39 cm. scrotal measurement and a 15.3 sq. in. rib eye.
Lot 316 brought $8,000 from Dean LaDue, Keldron, S.D. Here was another bull with just the right genetic combination. This son of Final Answer was out of a daughter of 6I6 and had a birth weight of 72 lb. He weaned at 672 lb. and grew to a yearling weight of 1191 lb. to ratio 106.
Ted Brockel, Bison, S.D., bought two outstanding two year old bulls in Lots 255 and 253, each at $7,000. The Lot 255 bull was a son of SAV Pioneer 7301, going back to Final Answer, and out of a daughter of 6I6. Born at 81 lb., he had a yearling weight ratio of 103. Lot 253 was also a son of SAV Pioneer 7301 and out of another daughter of 6I6. He had a 77 lb. birth weight and a 42 cm. scrotal measurement. Ted had found a good set of complimentary bulls in these two purchases.
Lot 352 was a yearling son of BC Matrix 4132 and out of a daughter of New Frontier. He sold for $7,000 to Bobby Ducheneaux, Mobridge, S.D. This really deep-sided, thickmade bull had an 84 lb. birth weight. He weaned at 810 lb. to ratio 122. His yearling weight came in at 1,265 lb. to ratio 112. He had a 15 sq. in. rib eye and a very high IMF score.
At $7,500, Lot 231 was swept up by Dean LaDue, Keldron, S.D. This two year old son of BC Matrix 4132 was out of a daughter of New Frontier, and had a 71 lb. birth weight. He had a healthy scrotal measurement of 44 cm.
The yearling heifers were in very high demand, as all 80 heifers averaged $1,639. Janet and Kent provided an excellent dinner on this cold, windy day. Watch for more, as this young herd continues to progress and reach the goals of the LaDue family.
