LeDoux statue unveiled this month in Kaycee

The late Chris LeDoux, a world champion bareback rider and internationally renowned country western musician, will be honored in his hometown of Kaycee, WY June 18-19 with the unveiling of a bronze statue of him at Chris LeDoux Memorial Park.

Sculptor Michael Thomas of Buffalo, WY is in the final stages of construction of “Good Ride Cowboy,” which shows LeDoux spurring hard on a bucking horse. The base of the “life-size-and-a-half” statue is shaped like a guitar.

LeDoux won the bareback riding world championship in 1976 and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2005 in the notables’ category.

“Chris’ passing hit me like a ton of bricks right in the gut,” Thomas said. “I have always had an idea there needed to be a monument of this fellow. He was Mr. Wyoming.”
