This was one of the biggest crowds ever to gather for the Lehrkamp Livestock annual production sale. Mike and Jodie Lehrkamp and their son, Carl, had the bulls in good shape for the sale, and the folks were ready to walk through the pens to evaluate the top qualities of these bulls. This was a big, long-bodied set of bulls, and perhaps, the heaviest they have ever had.

The Lehrkamps have several resident herd bulls that have been proven in their herd. This year some of the blood lines were Aberdeen, Image Maker, Onward, Pendleton, Forward, Windy, 21AR Denali, and Connealy Final Four.

Although it was very windy outside, the big crowd made for a wonderful day, especially with the food and hospitality that this family provides.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 3150, selling for $5,750 to Roy Bolden, Buffalo Gap, S.D. This was a son of 21AR Denali 1175 and out of a daughter of GS Freedom 2. His EPD list included CED 11, BW 0.7, WW 54, YW 86, and MILK 32. Born at 68 lb. he weaned at 710 lb.

Auctioneer Jeff Long pronounced, “Sold,” with Lot 327 swept up by Warren Solberg, Highmore, S.D., for $5,500. This big, stout bull had an actual weaning weight of 760 lb. and was a son of DB Aberdeen 9125. He had gained 3.32 lb. a day on test, and was out of a daughter of E Bar V Freedom 3019. His EPDs were BW 1.6, WW 41, YW 77, and MILK 25.

Lot 328 walked out the door after selling for $5,500 to Mark Kiefer, Rapid City, S.D. This bull was a son of Double W Image Maker U008 and out of a Jim Nachtigall bred cow by Hoff Head of the Class who is a Pathfinder with a ratio of 106 on 7 calves. He had an 89 lb. birth weight and a weaning weight of 755 lb. to ratio 110. His EPDs were CED 6, BW 1.4, WW 49, YW 81, and MILK 26.

Warren Solberg bought another good bull with his purchase of Lot 310 at $5,000. This son of Connealy Forward was out of a daughter of SAV Pioneer 7301. He had an 82 lb. birth weight and a weaning weight of 710 lb. His EPDs were CED 9, BW 3.3, WW 51, YW 92, and MILK 31.

Repeat buyer Owen Peterson, Vivian, S.D., selected Lot 347 at $4,750. He was a son of DB Aberdeen 9125 and out of a daughter of Woodlawn Charge On 14. His EPDs were CED 5, BW 1.6, WW 45, YW 90 and MILK 27. He had an 84 lb. birth weight and a weaning weight of 737 lb.

Longtime repeat buyer Ron Kleinsasser, Caputa, S.D., chose Lot 3146 at $4750. He was sired by 21AR Denali 1175, and his dam is a Pathfinder cow with a ratio of 105 on 4 head. He ranked in the top 10 percent in the breed for CED, BW, and MILK. His EPDs were CED 13, BW -0.4, WW 49, YW 81, and MILK 29.

The top selling heifer was Lot 379, selling for $3,200 to Risig Angus, a good Montana ranch. This heifer was sired by DB Aberdeen 9125.

A nice set of cattle and a good day for the Lehrkamp family!
