Leland Red Angus and Koester Red Angus Annual Production Sale

Doug Hogan
Louis and Helen Arnold of Esmond, ND

Leland Red Angus, owned and operated by Melvin and Luella Leland and family, and Koester Red Angus, owned and operated by Steve and Tracey Koester and family, held their annual production sale March 12 at the Leland ranch. Leland and Koester have been challenged with drought conditions the past three years but with their exceptional cow herd they still had excellent weaning weights. Their bull calves averaged 726 pounds and the heifers at 651 pounds – all with the mother’s milk with no supplements or creep feed.

This reflects their cow herd with extreme culling and by their breeding program. Leland and Koester understand their responsibility and commitment of producing functional and productive seedstock that will be profitable for the commercial and purebred cattleman and sustain their livelihoods in the beef industry. They continue to emphasize quiet, manageable dispositions, fleshing ability, fertility and stayability. One of their objectives is to advance their customers in the place of marketing their calves.
