The Leland and Koester families teamed up to host their very successful 31st Annual Red Angus sale at the ranch near Sidney, Mont. on Mar. 14. The seats were filled with both new and repeat Red Angus bull buyers from across the region.

This is a very reputable operation focusing on easy fleshing, calving ease bulls with plenty of power and performance. The bulls were readily accepted by the large crowd, giving the Leland’s and Koester’s one of their best sales ever.

Top-selling lots:

Leland Fire T22-548, Lot 1, a March 28, 2013, son of 5L Firebrand P19-T22, topped the sale selling to Saunders Land and Livestock of Gillette, Wyo., for $16,000.

Koester Merlin 201, Lot 28, an August 5, 2012, son of LJC Merlin T179, was the second-high selling bull. He sold to Ron Monzelowsky of Bismarck, N.D., for $12,500.

Two bulls sold for $11,000 each. Leland Fire T22-592, Lot 7, a March 31, 2013 son of 5L Firebrand P19-T22, sold to Joe Wagner of Brandon, Minn., and Leland Affirmed 583, Lot 23, a son of WFL Affirmed 9060, sold to Carroll Nelson of Rygate, Mont.

Saunders Land and Livestock purchased Leland Merlin 695, Lot 47, an April 6, 2013 son of LJC Merlin T179, for $10,500.

Northern Lites Ranch of Opheim, Mont., purchased Leland Power Point 671, Lot 5, an April 4, 2013, son of Leland Fire Power Y50, for $10,000.

Two heifers topped the yearling heifer offering at $2,500 each. Leland Cool 9229-690, Lot 422, an April 5, 2013, daughter of Leland Cool 9229W, sold to Jerry Turner of Flaxville, Mont., and Leland Heavy Metal 759, Lot 430, an April 10, 2013, daughter of Larson Anvil 014, sold to John McCrory of Linton, N.D.

Jason and Peggy Leiseth of Arnegard, N.D., purchased two heifers for $2,450. Leland Affirmed 854, Lot 411, is a May 5, 2013, daughter of WFL Affirmed 9060, and Leland Firefly 633, Lot 420, is an April 2, 2013, daughter of Leland Fire 82X.

The volume bull buyers were Prewitt and Company of Sidney, Mont., with 11 bulls, and Ponderosa Pine Management LLC of Billings, Mont., with nine bulls. The volume heifer buyers were Scott and Debbie Fladeland of Ross, N.D., with 10 head, and John and Glen McCrory of Linton, N.D., with eight head.
