Limousin activities slated for National Western Stock Show
DENVER, CO – The North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) continues to solidify its plans for the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, CO, Jan. 8-12, 2011. Among the breed’s activities are the National Limousin Sale, NALF annual meeting, NALF member social, Limousin and Lim-Flex pen and carload shows, the Junior heifer show and the Medal of Excellence (MOE) show.
The National Limousin Sale will kick-off the Limousin events with the parade beginning at 1 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2011 in the Stadium Arena. The sale will follow at 6 p.m. in the Beef Palace Auction Arena and will feature herd sire prospects, bred heifers, open heifers and embryo packages, along with the fifth annual Corner Post Package.
DJ Limousin of Port Orchard, WA, has generously donated DJ Xecutive Privilege 476X, a stylish Lim-Flex heifer, to the North American Limousin Junior Association (NALJA) Corner Post Fund. DJ Xecutive Privilege is a Feb. 13, 2010 DHVO Deuce daughter out of DJ Uptown Girl. Proceeds from the package will benefit NALJA. The first class of heifers in the juniors’ female show will enter the Stadium Arena at 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, for Chan Phillips of Maysville, KY, to judge. Following the Junior show, the action shifts to the Doubletree Hotel Denver for the NALF annual meeting and member social.
The NALF annual meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Doubletree. President Lance Sennett of Waynetown, IN, will preside as members conduct the organization’s business, including the election of five directors. The NALF member social will follow at 6:30 p.m. The member social will include the 2010 Medal of Excellence (MOE) show-awards presentations and the 2010 Commercial awards presentations. The evening will conclude with the annual “Genetics on Ice” auction to benefit the North American Limousin Junior Association (NALJA) and the All-American Limousin Futurity (AALF).
The Limousin and Lim-Flex® pen and carload shows will open at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in the Livestock Center Auction Arena. Dan Hoge, Galva, IL; Gordon Schuppe, Illiff, CO; and Craig Uden, Cozad, NE, will officiate. Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, CO, and Wulf Limousin Farms, Morris, MN, are sponsoring the ever popular “hamburger fry” during the pen and carload show.
To conclude the breed’s activities, the Lim-Flex® and Limousin MOE shows begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Stadium Arena. Todd Herman of Skiatook, OK, will judge those entries.
Many livestock producers are utilizing stockpiled pasture, hay regrowth and warm- or cool-season annuals to extend the grazing season this fall.
