The South Dakota Cutting Horse Association (SDCHA) announced that Gilbert Lutter of Redfield, SD, is the 2010 recipient of the Gary Henriksen Sportsmanship Award. This recognition was especially meaningful to Lutter as he had introduced the late Mr. Henriksen, also a Redfield businessman, to the sport of cutting and sold him his first cutting horse, Docs Triple Sox. The award was established by the Henriksen family in 1998 to annually recognize an individual who has provided outstanding support for the sport of cutting and the SDCHA.

The president of the SDCHA, Tom Kauer, of Winner, SD, said “Gilbert is a true sportsman and horseman. He is a great role model for our younger riders and has been a successful competitor in cutting for over 25 years. He is always willing to give his time to the association and share advice and encouragement with all, especially younger riders.”

Gilbert and his wife Zelda owned and operated the Redfield Livestock Auction for 40 years. Their children Joe, Wanda, Marsha and Barb, now all grown, competed actively in AQHA, 4-H, high school and college horse events including cutting, roping, barrels and poles.
