Ma & Pa Angus Bull Sale
Date: April 29, 2013
Location: Presho Livestock Auction, Presho, SD
48 yearling Angus bulls – $3,262
Steve and Deb Mowry along with their young sons, Sage and Shilo, presented a top set of real world bulls for the 16th Annual Ma & Pa Angus bull sale held at Presho Livestock Auction, Presho, S.D.
When Steve started in the Angus business over 20 years ago, his focus was on the female end of the equation. He never chased the new and upcoming herd sire of the day, but was always striving to breed top quality females that will work in his environment. When looking thru the sale catalog, it looks like his philosophy and goals are being met when you note all the Pathfinder dams and grand-dams in the footnotes.
This is a no-nonsense cattle outfit that believes in the type of cattle they produce. They place a strong emphasis on “real world” beef production, with cattle that have the ability to grow and perform without extra feed and supplements. These bulls were range ready, hard bodied, easy keepers that their new owners will appreciate more and more as the breeding season progresses.
Topping the sale was lot 826, Ma & Pa Quick Draw Z826, a 3/24/12 son of Ma & Pa Quick Draw 9117 and a pathfinder Sitz Alliance 6595 dam. The bull has EPDs of BW -1.1, WW 50, Milk 27, YW 83, with a weaning ration of 123 weaning ratio selling to Don Meier, White Lake, S.D. for $6,000.
Lot 634, Ma & Pa Executive Z634, a 3/10/12 son of Ma & Pa Executive and also out of a pathfinder dam sold to Robert Calkins, Ft. Pierre, S.D. for $5,900. This bull has EPDs of BW 1.7, WW 55, Milk 24, YW 86, with a weaning weight of 729 pounds to ratio at 128.
