MacDonald held their annual Performance Power 2013 production sale at Kist Livestock on March 12.
MacDonald Ranches is one of the premier breeders of Salers cattle in the U.S. Breeders and commercial cattlemen from across a huge area were in the seats or represented on the phone to buy this great set of Salers and Salers-influenced bulls and females.
The cattle on this ranch are thick, stout, eye-appealing and most important, extremely quiet in their disposition. Definitely not the Salers of years past. These cattle will excel in the pasture and in the feedlot.
Two bulls topped out at $10,500 each. Lot 17, MAC Arcade 129A, a 2/25/13 black, polled purebred Salers son of Mac Wyndham 54W with EPDs of BW 1.7, WW 48, YW 85, Milk 26 went to Burning Daylight Farms, Charlottesville, Va.
The other $10,500 bull was lot 68, Mac Ankara 209A, a 3/10/13 black polled 77 percent Salers son of Opp Saber 847U with EPDs of BW -1.0, YW 45, YW 80, Milk 21, going to Jerry Patterson, Kadoka, S.D.
Lot 160, Mac Great Impression 75A, a 2/19/13 black, polled, purebred Angus son of Connealy Impression with EPDs of BW 1.3, WW 60, YW 103, Milk 28 sold to Leroy Circle W, Underwood, N.D. for $9,500.
The next high selling bull for the day was Lot 131, Mac F1 Algonquin 302A, a 3/19/13 homozygous black 50 percent Salers x 50 percent Angus son of Connealy Thunder to Cody Burkle, Fredonia, N.D. for $9,000.
Lot 46, Mac Appomattox 14A, a 2/9/13 black polled 87.5 percent Salers son of Mac Black Vista 349Y with EPDs of BW 1.0, WW 42, YW 77, Milk 23 went to Davidson Bros., Bonesteel, S.D. at $8,000.
The top-selling heifer calf was lot 166, Mac Angil 354A, a 3/26/13 black, polled, purebred Salers heifer sired by Mac Topeka 159T with EPDs of BW 2.3, WW 50, YW 91, Milk 21. Doug Peterson, Bovey, M.N. was the buyer at $4,750.
