McPherson County Range Day set for July 15 near Leola
BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service will co-host the McPherson County Range Day on July 15.
The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Ducks Unlimited, and the Nature Conservancy are hosting the range-based workshop.
The event starts with check-in at 9 a.m. at the ranch of Colin Hoffman, the Hoffman Hereford Ranch. To get there, drive 5 miles west of Leola on South Dakota Highway 10, then turn north on 357th Avenue and travel one and one-half miles.
Pre-registration is required before July 1 so that organizers can make arrangements for a free lunch meal. To register, call the McPherson County Natural Resources Conservation Service office at 605-439-3336, Ext. 3.
The program begins at 9:30 a.m., and speakers from South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, as well representatives and speakers from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will present information.
Topics include water quality and how it impacts livestock and their grazing habits and a demonstration focused on sizing paddocks that includes clipping data. The day concludes with a noon meal and presentations from Extension Range Management Outreach Coordinator Kyle Schell and the South Dakota Grazing Coalition.
The event ends at 1 p.m. but participants are encouraged to ask questions of the speakers at any time, including after the lunch.
