The sixth annual Jacob Long Memorial Horse Show, hosted by Triple R Coteau Horse Club, will be Sunday, August 17 in Edgeley, N.D. Jacob died in an ATV farm accident in 2009. This show was created to celebrate his life and honor his memory, as well as those who are no longer with us.
The day begins at 10 a.m. at the Triple R Arena located on the north side of Edgeley, just off Highway 281. Thanks to the support of many sponsors, there is over $1500 in added payout money. Events include Bareback Buck Race, Egg & Spoon, Stick Horse Race and Boot Race for kids 5 and under, Keyhole, Barrels, Polebending, Ring Race, Stake Race, Tunnel Race, Musical Tires, Sack Race, Rescue Race and Shovel Race (bring your own shovel). Age groups are: children, ages 12 and under; junior, ages 13 to 17 and adult, 18 and over.
A home-cooked lunch will be available at the old schoolhouse on the arena grounds. This is a free-will offering with this year’s proceeds going to the LaMoure County Suicide Prevention fund. Suicide affects families as well as communities. The Centers for Disease Control ranks the rate of suicide in North Dakota at 14.9 percent – 15th in the nation. A group of LaMoure County citizens formed this committee to bring about education and awareness in our small rural communities regarding suicide prevention. It also offers a network of support and hope. If you wish to make a personal donation in memory of Jacob or your loved one, you can send it directly to LCSP, Sandra Rupp, 8558 68th St. SE, Edgeley, ND 58433.
