Minot to host annual Badlands Circuit Finals again
October 28, 2013
Cowboys and cowgirls, bulls, and horses will stampede into Minot Oct. 10-13.
That's when the annual Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo, hosted by the Minot Y's Men's Rodeo, will be held at the State Fair Center.
The 100+ best cowboys and cowgirls across North and South Dakota converge in Minot to compete for the title of Badlands Circuit champion, and to provide fans with dynamite rodeo action to enjoy.
And for rodeo fans, it's also a chance to benefit another organization.
For the past 58 years, the profits from the rodeo have gone to benefit the Triangle Y Camp, seven miles southwest of Garrison, N.D., on Lake Sakakawea. Over the past half-century, the Y's Men have donated well over $1 million to the camp. That money subsidizes campers' tuition, and helps with improvements and upkeep.
Being a donor to the camp is important to 2013 rodeo chairman Paul Probst. Probst, who is an attorney in Minot, attended the camp as a child and was a counselor, too. "I think it's a great opportunity for any child," to go to camp. "I was a camper when I was in grade school, and it meant a lot to me. After that, I worked there as a teenager, and it was a wonderful experience."

Going to camp enables kids to learn new things and make new friends. "It gives kids a chance to do various activities, like learn to ride a horse, swim, fish, shoot a .22 rife, and do archery. It's a huge confidence builder." And the friends are important, too. "You meet a ton of friends you keep for a lifetime."
There's more to do the days of Oct. 10-13 than rodeo. A western shopping experience, Cowboy Christmas, will be held at the State Fair Center. The Kiwanis Pancake Feed is Oct. 12, and a special rodeo for kids with challenges is Oct. 10. The 2014 Miss Rodeo North Dakota Queen pageant will be held, and a ranch rodeo will also take place.
Tickets are on sale for the annual rodeo and range in price from $10 for kids up to $25 for adults. Season passes, good for all four rodeo performances, are also available. More information can be found at http://www.MinotYsMensRodeo.com or by calling 701-852-5577.
