Miss Rodeo SD 2009

I kicked off September with the Newell Labor Day Rodeo Queen contest in Newell, SD. At the pageant I helped with the pageant activities, judged the horsemanship, and I emceed the speeches and modeling with my sister Hayley, the 2008 Newell Labor Day Rodeo Queen. Special congratulations to the Newell Labor Day Rodeo Queen, Samantha Lee, Dana Youngberg, the Newell Labor Day Princess and Jenna Kari, the Jr. Newell Labor Day Queen.

In September I also had the opportunity to attend the Western South Dakota Fur Trapper’s convention in Hermosa, SD. It was so wonderful to catch up with the Miss Rodeo South Dakota fur coat sponsor, Jerry Westphal. Kristina Maddocks, the South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador, joined me during the convention and we both enjoyed selling raffle tickets for Jerry and visiting with the avid trapping enthusiasts. I also had the opportunity to show off my gorgeous black mink fur coat during the convention. Special thanks to the Western South Dakota Fur Trappers for supporting the Miss Rodeo South Dakota organization!

I have been working hard in preparation for the 55th annual Miss Rodeo America Pageant, which will be held prior to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nov. 29th through the 5th. I encourage you to look at the Miss Rodeo America pageant blog at http://missrodeoamericapageant.blogspot.com and follow the pageant along as it commences. This next month I will be studying horse science, rodeo history, rodeo knowledge, and current events as well as polishing my horsemanship riding skills, public speaking, interview skills and modeling. If anyone has any practice knowledge questions please feel free to e-mail them to me at mrsd2009@hotmail.com. Your help and thoughts are greatly appreciated!

My next stop will take me north to our sister state North Dakota for the Badlands Circuit Finals and the end of October will bring me back home to Rapid City for the South Dakota Rodeo Association Finals. I hope to see you all there!
